Since joining Heatherwick Studio in 2015, he has been instrumental on projects and leading on applied research. As Head of Geometry and Computational Design at the studio, Pablo leads a team of designers and specialists that work across all studio projects providing expertise and guidance on new technologies and techniques, simulation and the execution of challenging geometries as well as developing digital tools and products.
In this talk, Pablo Zamorano shares insight into the design thinking and creative processes behind Heatherwick Studio, exploring how architecture can move beyond convention to create more human, engaging, and emotionally resonant spaces. He reflects on the studio’s approach to challenging norms, questioning standardisation, and embracing experimentation to deliver projects that are both functional and deeply meaningful. Through examples and personal experience, the talk highlights the importance of storytelling, materiality, and craft in shaping memorable architecture, while also addressing the responsibility designers have to create places that connect with people on a deeper level. Ultimately, it offers a perspective on how bold ideas and curiosity-driven design can redefine the role of architecture in today’s world.
